Michele & Phil Lally began Savannah Farm after their family succession process, and after realising that they had to do something different so they could afford to stay on the 5th generation Lally family farm. Savannah Farm produce is now one of South Australia’s most well known ethically produced, free range, grass fed, meat products. Using Regenerative Farming practices, the couple have expanded from lamb and wool production to pasture raised poultry, and heritage pasture raised beef and pork, with a focus on using animals in landscapes to create increased soil fertility.
After a city corporate career in IT, consulting and event management, Michele is now a national committee member of the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance and Chair of Australian Fair Food Farmers United focussed on solidarity between farmers around Australia, fair food regulation and policy with a key focus on food security and family farms. In between selling pasture raised meats, Michele & Phil are in the final hours of delivering a multi species micro on-farm abattoir, following in the path of their mentor and friend, Joel Salatin, of Polyface Farms, Virginia, USA.
