Joan Ko is Arup’s Sustainability Leader in Melbourne. She is also appointed to Victorian Government committees that adaptively reuse heritage buildings and award sustainability funding to prepare the community for climate change.

Joan specialises in leading multidisciplinary teams that work across environment and economics. She is particularly experienced at introducing sustainability innovation in the planning system and using a range of investment and planning levers to create conditions for sustainable infrastructure. Recently, Joan assessed the potential for an integrated sustainability hub in Melbourne, which would recycle water, treat waste and generate energy, while catalysing urban renewal.
