Another Country illustrates the difficulties and dilemmas faced by people whose traditional way of life is in many ways at odds with that of the dominant white society.

Narrated and guided by Gulpilil himself, Another Country is an attempt to make sense of the contradictions of the modern Indigenous experience – a sobering, searing though often humorous account of a people forced to change too fast and too far, and then left to fade by those who had wrought that change.

Director Molly Reynolds visits the physical, social and spiritual landscape of Gulpilil’s own Ramingining community, where government policy collides with the traditional Indigenous way of life on a daily basis, affecting devastating results. Through the documentary, Gulpilil attempts to make sense of the chaos and contradictions that occur when we, as a nation, refuse to talk about race.

Essential viewing for all Australians.
